Planks:
College Tuition
In America there are 44.7 million people who are living with student loan debt and the total amount of that debt is $1.56 trillion. We will propose legislation would provide $50 billion per year to states to eliminate undergraduate tuition and fees at public colleges and universities. The way we plan to fund this is a sliding allocation technique in that we take the $50 billion for the tuition from the $716 billion in the national defense budget, since our military isn’t in active wartime. However, if or when that time comes, the $50 billion will be rightfully put back into the defense budget.
Public Education
We believe that the current system in place for public education is not beneficial to the student. We will propose that the public education system be altered to teach to the interests of the students and effect change needed to teach to the potential of the student.
Immigration Reform
We believe that the system for how people can immigrate to the US needs to be improved upon. We will propose that the immigration process be reformed in order to close the loopholes that prevent many deserving people from immigrating to the US. This would allow more people to pursue legal immigration and decrease the amount of people that immigrate to the US illegally.
Climate Change
We believe that man made climate change need to be acknowledged and action needs to be taken to prevent further damage. An increase in extreme weather like heat waves and more intense hurricanes, along with other threats like coral bleaching and sea levels rising are all becoming more frequent. We will propose that the US re-enter the the Paris Climate Agreement and then take the necessary steps to decrease our country's contribution to global warming.
Alternative Energy Sources
We believe that the US needs to make the transition from non-renewable energy sources to cleaner, alternative energy. By switching to energy sources such as solar, wind turbines, and hydro-power, the US can significantly decrease the amount of carbon emissions that we produce.
Foreign Military Intervention
We believe that the US needs to take a more cautionary approach when reacting to foreign situations instead of the immediate reaction being to send in military aid. We value diplomacy and want to take the steps necessary to preserve as many American lives as possible.
Minimum Wage
We believe that the American citizens that work minimum wage jobs, out of necessity, should be paid higher. It is very difficult for people to support themselves and their families off of $7.25 an hour, we will propose that minimum wage be raised to $10.25. This will be better suited for the lives that minimum wage-working Americans live.
